This 9-piece cookware set is a prime example of Caraway’s greatness, coming with a variety of pots and pans as well as some bonuses for your convenience to make storage that much easier.

I consider myself an avid supporter of all things eco-friendly and love to do my part wherever I can, and this is one of those sets that definitely catch my eye. This set is an incredibly well-rounded mid-tier stainless steel set. Despite not sharing the same level of fame as, say, All-Clad, Duxtop is easily one of the best low-key brands I can think of. Not many people have heard of this brand, at least in my circles, but the online reviews don’t lie, and there is no doubt that those who have taken on Duxtop only have the best of things to say about its cookware sets.

Back to the set, this is an 18-piece beast of a deal, covering practically everything I can think of that I would need and want to cook with. Cuisinart TPS-10 10 Piece Tri-ply Stainless Steel Cookware Set, PC, Silver

This 10-piece set is highly durable, backed by tri-ply stainless steel construction, which makes it very tolerant to high temperatures, reaching a maximum oven safety of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The tempered glass lids also help lock in the heat and flavor when cooking, and the handles are built to extend extra high, giving you a safe distance from all the hot stuff when adding and removing lids. I love this set because it feels like it was made with the user in mind.

It shows in the small details, another example being the extra “helper handle” included on the sauté pan, which makes the general handling much easier and even adds some versatility to what you can use it for. Rated 4.6 stars on Amazon reviews, this set definitely walks the walk.

The materials are very compatible with glass top stoves, particularly induction, so I would like to extend an even stronger recommendation to the induction cooktop owners out there to really consider this set by Cuisinart as your next cookware upgrade. T-fal Ultimate Hard Anodized Nonstick 12 Piece Cookware Set, Dishwasher Safe Pots and Pans Set, Black

This 12-piece set really packs a punch with its huge range of benefits. It’s not often you get the durability of hard-anodized aluminum and titanium combined with a nonstick interior that is both scratch-resistant and toxin-free. In addition to that, you also get some utensils with this set designed for use with T-fal pots and pans so that you don’t run the risk of scratching the surface (though it is scratch-resistant, avoiding metal utensils is still recommended).

For me, the best thing about this set is the lids which are tempered and vented, because I know the struggle of not being able to see your food through the lid because of the foggy steam that builds up with the heat.

The vents allow for just enough ventilation to make the food visible without compromising the heat retention achieved from the lids. The handles are also not too heavy and should be nice and stable on a glass-top stove. The aluminum material definitely helps to maximize the conductivity of heat, which is essential for electric stoves and induction cooktops, both of which are staples of the glass top stove.

This set comes in with a staggering 4.7-star rating on Amazon, and with over 18,500 global ratings, I’d say that’s a pretty big deal. I highly recommend this set from T-fal if you want the best of all worlds, and definitely, if you sport a glass top stove. Read more about it in our T-fal Cookware Review.

Brought to you by the German brand ZWILLING J.A. Henckels, this stainless steel cookware set is specially designed for lasting durability and excellent heating properties. The tri-ply construction consists of two layers of stainless steel sheets encompassing an aluminum core, resulting in a strong and durable finish that can withstand temperatures of up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

In my opinion, the tolerance of high temperatures is essential with glass top stoves, as the heat transfer is more direct, so I always hold pots and pans that can go 500 degrees and beyond in high regard.

Unfortunately, this set has no non-stick coating of any sorts, so if that is a problem for you, definitely turn away from this one. On the plus side, 3mm thick aluminum means heat conductivity of epic proportions, which is my other condition for giving cookware set its due respect.

Overall, this set received a 3.9-star rating on Amazon, which does not seem too fantastic until you realize that the complaints come from people pointing out that it is not non-stick. I recommend that if you are accustomed to adding your own seasoning to the surface, such as butter, oil, or other lubricants, then you really shouldn’t have any issues with this set from Henckels, despite its not-so-impressive rating compared to the other sets in this article.

What is a glass top stove?

A glass top stove is essentially just as its name suggests, a stove with a top made of glass, at least, that’s what the masses would think. In reality, glass top stoves actually consist of a degree of ceramic material blended into them to give them a crystalline structure. If you think about it, a pure glass-made stove would be incredibly fragile, so it makes sense that it must contain a percentage of ceramic to ensure its sturdiness.

In my personal opinion, I prefer the term “glass-ceramic” top stove for a more accurate description, but for the sake of keeping things consistent in the article, I’ll stick to the commonly-used term glass top stove.

How are glass top stoves different?

Glass top stoves are different from regular stove tops for a variety of reasons. At first glance, they have a very similar appearance to induction stovetops but differ in how they operate and their interior construction. In terms of heating, glass top stoves typically use electric coils or induction but can also be gas.

For electric glass top stoves, the coils underneath heat up when the switch is turned on and then radiate the heatwaves to heat the cookware using the glass to facilitate this process safely. With induction glass top stoves, the heating occurs through electromagnetic fields, much like a microwave, making the heating transfer more directly from electric currents in the coil straight to the pots and pans.

In all honesty, the main selling point of glass top stoves is their beautiful appearance and shiny aesthetic look, and perhaps also their toxic-free properties. I say this because when it comes to heat conduction, glass top stoves do not conduct heat and, say, stainless steel stovetops. On the other hand, this means they are safer to use and less likely to receive damage from overheating.

Nevertheless, glass top stoves should be used with caution to maximize long-lasting performance. In fact, the type of cookware you use on glass top stoves will have an enormous impact on your results. I will delve into the details in the following sections.

Why Glass Top Stoves Require Special Cookware?

Due to the fragile nature of glass, it is important to use special cookware that won’t scratch the surface or damage the glass top stove. This is because one wrong move of the wrong material will compromise the smooth properties of the glass top stove. Not only that, but the type of cookware you use also affects the residual that is left on the glass stovetop, which in turn influences the difficulty of cleaning up.

What is the best material for glass top stoves?

The best material for glass cooktop stoves is stainless steel, aluminum, and copper. Naturally, this is due to their high conductive properties. Still, their reputation for producing highly durable cookware products. Glass top stoves are by default not very conductive, so the transfer of heat from the electric coils or induction is highly dependable on the material of cookware used. Again, this is more important with induction cooktops, which do not produce heat in the conventional way of heating electric coils or using gas flames but simply transfers the electric currents to the cookware.

Materials to avoid on glass top stoves

To summarize, the materials you want to avoid on glass top stoves are cast iron, stoneware, glass, and pure ceramic cookware. Due to a lack of conductivity and often also a lack of durability, these materials are all the more redundant on glass top stoves. Generally speaking, I would avoid all materials that do not have a high oven safety level, particularly if they are below 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

What should you look for when buying cookware for glass top stoves?

There is a range of things to look out for when purchasing pots and pans for glass top stoves. To optimize your experience, you need to consider factors such as the heat conductivity of the cookware, the materials used, the handles, and much more. Below is a detailed list of each point to consider.

Fast heating

When it comes to heat conduction, you will want a cookware set with high conductivity, as this is the prime method in which glass top stoves achieve heating of foods. If your stovetop is induction too, then the conductivity of your pots and pans is all the more important, as the transfer of heat is purely through electric current transmission.

No hot spots

Expanding on the points made earlier, the cookware used needs to be highly conductive to ensure an even cooking result. Non-conductive materials will cause severely uneven heating when it comes to glass top stoves, particularly when you consider that glass tops are not very conductive in the first place, compared with other metal or stainless steel stovetops.

Materials Used

To achieve high conductivity, you will need copper, stainless steel, and aluminum for best results. You will also want to consider a heavier material that stabilizes its position when resting on the stovetop, as this will minimize the chances of scratching. Materials to avoid include but are not limited to cast iron, stoneware, porcelain enamel, and glass cookware, as the roughness of the surfaces will surely cause damage to your glass top stove in the short to long term future.

Durability

When it comes to glass top stoves, the cookware you use does not necessarily have to be the most durable pots and pans on the market, but it will pay off to have something sturdy regardless. This is especially true if your cookware is indeed highly conductive, as spikes in temperature can damage your pots or pans if not backed by some decent durability.

Flat Bottom

While most pots and pans have a flat bottom anyway, take extra care to make sure this is the case when purchasing cookware for your glass top stove, as any imbalances on the way it stands can jeopardize the stove top’s surface through scratches or shattering of glass.

Budget

Looking for cookware to suit a glass top stove is not as daunting as you may think, and your budget is certainly nothing to fret about. This is because there is a set of suitable cookware to accommodate all kinds of budgets while maintaining quality compatibility with your cooktop. Whether you are a casual home cook, mother of ten, or a professional chef, you will find a great variety of cookware sets at all different price ranges and premium status to suit your needs, both personal and financial.

Handles

As with all cookware purchases, taking into account the handles is very important, and of course, you will want them to maintain stay-cool ergonomic properties for safety and comfort. However, when it comes to glass top stoves, take extra care to ensure the handles are symmetrical and well-balanced, as any imbalances can cause your pots and pans to sway from side to side. This is an absolute no-no with glass top stoves as you are risking scratching and damaging the beautiful glass surface that prompted you to go for this stove top style in the first place. Thus, when it comes to glass top stoves, stability in cookware is key.

Number of pieces

The number of pieces in your cookware set is irrelevant, so long as you do not crowd your stove with pots and pans. Glass top stoves are highly prone to scratches and damage, so you really want to make sure that only the pots and pans in use are on the stove. Another handy tip is to keep metal utensils away from the stove wherever possible, as again, they are prime suspects when it comes to glass top stoves.

Best Cookware For Glass Top Stoves FAQ

What should pots and pans for glass top stoves be made of?

The best materials for glass top stoves are stainless steel, aluminum, and copper, as these are highly conductive materials that are also excellent in durability. This is important because glass top stoves most often use electricity or induction to heat up, as they use heat transfer instead of a direct flame. This means the cookware material is extra important to achieve the best results, the more conductive and durable the material, the better.

Do you need special cookware for glass top stoves?

The type of cookware you use for glass top stoves does not necessarily need to be “special,” but certain key characteristics of the pots and pans should be considered. For starters, you will want flat bottoms with light, well-balanced handles. Also, consider the material’s conductivity, higher is better, and the tolerance of higher temperatures. I would suggest going for aluminum, stainless steel, or copper for the materials and would not settle for anything less than 500 degrees Fahrenheit of oven safety as a personal preference.

Is ceramic cookware good for glass top stoves?

Pure ceramic cookware often specializes in maximizing eco-friendly properties and non-stick, as opposed to conductivity and durability, so I would not recommend it for glass top stoves. On the other hand, ceramic-coated cookware often comes with conductive stainless steel, aluminum, or copper (see our Best Copper Cookware post for more details ), which are great for glass top stoves. My final verdict is that pure ceramic should be avoided, but ceramic-coated will often be a good choice for glass top stoves. Just make sure the core materials are conductive and durable. Learn more about this cookware in our Best Ceramic Cookware article.

What materials should you not use on a glass top stove?

You should not use any type of glass cookware on a glass top stove, as this can result in damage to both your cookware and your stove. I would also avoid pure ceramic materials as they do not work well with electric or induction glass top stoves and are often not tolerant of higher temperatures. In general, I would not use any material that cannot withstand temperatures of more than 350 degrees Fahrenheit, though this is not an absolute deal-breaker.

Bottom Line: What is the best cookware for a glass top stove?

All things considered, my top pick for the best cookware for a glass top stove has to go to the Caraway Ceramic 9 Piece Cookware Set. This set had so many benefits, with no flaws that stood out to me as a problem. Upon reviewing this masterpiece, I found it to have absolutely every microscopic detail that ticked my boxes. From its construction to its materials used, aesthetics, and much more, this set just feels like the pinnacle of glass top stove cookware in my eyes.

As mentioned before, I have a pet peeve when it comes to oven safety, and this set blasts my problems away with its massive temperature tolerance of 550 degrees Fahrenheit, which is honestly far higher than the majority of home kitchen stoves.

For glass top stoves, tolerance to temperature changes is more important, as the transfer of heat is more direct through electric coils and induction heat, which are staples of any glass top stove. Upon first glance at this set, I had my doubts about it being a ceramic-based set.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that it held all the awesome benefits of ceramic that I care about and possessed an aluminum core and stainless steel handles, which make it that much stronger as a cooking tool. Not to mention, the conductivity and durability of these materials go a long way with glass top stoves, and you don’t need to worry about damaging your stove with heavy materials or unbalanced handles that throw your pots and pans out of whack.

To have the non-stick greatness and toxin-free properties of ceramic AND the conductivity and durability of aluminum and stainless steel is a dream come true for glass top stove users. My final verdict for the best cookware for a glass top stove: the Caraway Ceramic 9 Piece Cookware Sets.
