Made In executive chef review

This set is indeed at the level of “executive,” as it simply covers everything you could ever want in a cookware set. The iconic 5-ply stainless steel with triple aluminum and stainless steel layers provide ultimate durability to last you a lifetime if properly looked after.

Compatible on all cooktops and such an amazing range, from the iconic Made In 5-ply stainless steel to the award-winning carbon wok and the non-stick coated frying pans, this executive set leaves nothing out.

I was absolutely shocked at the decent price of this set, considering how many different pieces are included, all of which are made with high-quality materials. I definitely would recommend this set to those who want a taste of a wider range of Made In cookware without losing out on their famous stainless steel clad cookware.

While this set does not include copper, it was a necessary sacrifice to ensure that the Made In Executive Set was completely induction compatible (it’s also on our Best Cookware for Gas Stove). With stay-cool curved ergonomic handles on all necessary products in this set, you can’t go wrong with this one!

Definitely recommend this set for an amazing deal for home chefs that you won’t regret, and if for whatever reason you do regret it, don’t fret! Made in Cookware Copper Set

This is some of the best copper cookware out there. Copper sets excel in heat conduction and temperature control and are great for searing meats and stir-frying. These are amazing for home chefs!

Made In’s Copper Set is a unique set of cookware consisting of 90% copper and 10% stainless steel, with no aluminum involved. You may think to yourself, what’s the problem with aluminum? The problem is really to do with the manufacturing of aluminum which produces a lot more carbon emissions than copper and retains chemicals such as PFOAs(1). If that’s not enough of a selling point for you, there’s also the fact that copper is among the most heat-conductive metals in the world, so you can be sure that your food is never undercooked with these pots and pans.

Unfortunately, you cannot use this cookware on an induction cooktop, which will definitely be a problem for many consumers, I would imagine.

But for those that can use it, you will love the aesthetics and design of this set, with ergonomic stay-cool curved handles for easy control and a shine that’s so bright it’ll have your whole party asking about its beauty. I absolutely would recommend this set if you are willing to pay a little extra for superior quality. (And if your cooktop is not induction!)

Non-stick coated pots and pans, particularly the Made In Non-Stick Set, are amazing for smooth-surfaced pans that not only make cooking so easy but also free of chemicals and toxins, not to mention tastier with no burnt bits getting stuck. The Made In Non-Stick Set, in particular, has double the coating for double the goodness.

This 3-piece set is small but deadly.  While it indeed only includes 3 non-stick pans, they are a couple of notches above the non-stick pans in the previously reviewed sets. These pans are made with a double-coating of award-winning non-stick Made Slick coating.

Free of PFOA, this coating lasts 10 times longer than Made In’s competitors and up to 30 times longer than ceramic non-stick. The pan composition is also award-winning, and with the top-quality double-coating to go with it, these pans are not only highly durable but also incredibly seamless when it comes to cooking. You can be sure that your food will not be contaminated with any toxins that regular pans emit while also enjoying a pleasurable and easy clean-up experience. It’s a great set at a great price tag.

As you can tell from its inclusions (and the product name), this is Made In’s carbon steel cookware set. Of course, this means there are no other materials involved, so do not expect the 5-ply stainless clad or the copper or even any non-stick coating here.

Nevertheless, carbon steel is something special altogether. The material used in this set is something of a hybrid that combines the heat retention properties of cast iron and the heat control, and the lightness of stainless steel, creating the all-encompassing carbon steel.

As such, this set is designed with the intention of giving curious customers an understanding of what the big deal is with Blue Carbon Steel. From frying pans to roasting pans and even a wok, all made of the same steel, this set has so many capabilities, and it would be hard to find a recipe that this combination of cookware cannot handle.

Finally, the Blue Carbon choices simply take things to a new realm, encompassing features of all materials, boasting high durability like stainless steel and high heat conductivity like that of copper, all in one product. Multi-award-winning materials and a direct product-to-consumer model are all ingredients for the perfect cookware brand and delighted customers!

The Blue Carbon Made In Wok is an incredibly versatile piece of cookware that can accomplish so many different things, such as stir-frying, braising, steaming, deep-frying, and so much more! Rated on average 4.8 stars by real customers with first-hand experience using the wok, it would be hard to deny the quality of this one.

On top of that, it was awarded the “Best Heavy Duty Wok” by Good Housekeeping, a prestigious cookware award that definitely validates its credibility as a top-tier wok. Highly durable with a tolerance of up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, this wok really can last you a lifetime if you look after it properly. Perhaps the one real downside is the fact that you need to season this thing every time you use it, as it’s not a non-stick wok by any means.

The upside to that is that it requires only a very little bit of seasoning to perform well. To top it all off, it’s pretty affordable for a top-quality wok, so definitely consider getting this for a flexible solution to tackling your next recipe.

This pan is something special, to say the least. It’s not every day you get premium 5-ply stainless steel construction and double layer non-stick coating both in the same pan. Made In’s Made Slick coating lasts 30 times longer than ceramic non-stick cookware, and that’s a staggering stat to behold. Not just that, but this item is a notch above the rest, with a rating of 4.9 stars, an almost perfect result.

Compatible on all cooktops and free of toxins, you can enjoy peace of mind with this pan, knowing that you are not consuming anything harmful and that you are also not harming the environment in any major way. Built to last a lifetime with a triple aluminum core and stainless steel clad layers, this saute pan is also super easy to clean, thanks to the non-stick surface. The dirt just comes right off!

As with most Made In products, please don’t put this one in the dishwasher, and give it the personal hand wash it deserves. Also, refrain from metal utensils scratching the surface, and use plastic or wooden utensils if you can. Do these things, and this incredible pan won’t just deliver unbeatable results but will also last you a lifetime, maybe even for your future generations!

As a top-tier copper saucier pan with unmatched heat conductivity and retention, expect to pay top dollar for this work of art. Backed by a near-perfect rating of 4.9 stars, it would be foolish to deny the quality of this piece.

Nonetheless, nothing is perfect, and even this piece has some drawbacks, such as not being dishwasher safe nor being induction cooktop compatible. On the other hand, these issues are not uncommon for copper cookware, and this is still top of the range for a copper saucier. Combined with stainless steel lining for an easier clean, this really is a hassle-free saucier that delivers lasting results!

About Made In Cookware

History of Made In Cookware

Established in 2016 by best friends Jake Kalick and Chip Malt, Made In is a super young and energetic brand and has shaken up the world of cookware as the new disruptor in town. As one of the best cookware manufacturers in the US, the story of Jake and Chip is truly remarkable.

As early as 5 years of age, the two boys had already established a strong friendship for life, as they grew up together in Boston and would eventually move out to New York after completing college. Both driven by a love for cooking, Jake and Chip would host dinners to maintain ties with friends in the busy Big Apple.

Jake, in particular, was backed by a family history of commercial kitchen supply workers, which exposed him and Chip to a world of knowledge. This led them to the realization that people were not aware of the type of cookware they were using in their homes or even the name of the brands they use daily.

Motivated by this thought, the two best friends decided they wanted to dedicate themselves to bridging the gap between consumer and product by creating a cookware brand that can inspire home cooks to strive for the best while also making dinner-hosting “fun again.”

As such, Jake and Chip would eventually create Made In, a brand based on a direct product-to-consumer model, which eliminates the middleman and makes cooking more personal. This is the core philosophy of Made In, as the name itself is derived from the notion that “the best experiences are Made In our kitchens, whether that is exploring a culture through their cuisine, hosting a date night or dinner party, or mastering a recipe passed down through generations.”

What is the Made-in product lineup?

Made in Cookware Copper Set

Made In boasts a range of cookware sets and products made of top-quality stainless steel materials and 5-ply metal construction. High performance and high durability come at half the price of their competitors. This is what Made In strives to accomplish in the market.

While their incredible 5-ply stainless steel range is indeed the brand’s major selling point and area of specialty, they do offer more than that. Cookware made of carbon steel and copper are also top selling points, as well as kitchen knives and accessories. However, in this review, I will only be covering Made In cookware and the various types, leaving the knives out of this little discussion.

The common denominator for all of Made In’s pots and pans is that they are all made with ergonomic stay-cool curved handles. In terms of materials, they vary greatly depending on the item, ranging from its famous 5-ply stainless steel clad to copper, non-stick and blue carbon.

Below is the product lineup for the Made In cookware company are:

Materials Used

As can be seen from the sets described thus far, each set has its advantages. The main materials used in Made In cookware are 5-ply stainless steel clad, often consisting of three core layers of heavy gauge aluminum. Depending on the cookware set you go for, other materials used would include copper, carbon steel, and non-stick coating, which may or may not be used in conjunction with one another.

Product lines

5-ply stainless steel cookware is the main product offered by Made In, followed by carbon steel cookware and copper cookware. From there, the list continues to also include kitchen knives and then kitchen accessories.

Handles

Made In cookware comprises stainless steel handles on its products, which are both ergonomic and heat-resistant. Additionally, Made In pans also have a slight bend on the handle to prevent your hand from getting too close to the hot surface. The handle is also curved in an upward direction to give you great control from a distance, saving you from too much heat in your face while you’re cooking. Finally, the curved handle is attached with two bolts to the rivet, including an engraved Made In logo.

How Does Made in Cookware Compare to Other Cookware?

Made In vs. All-Clad

The commonality between Made In and All-Clad is that they are both American specialists of 5-ply stainless steel, so either brand can do wonders for your kitchen needs. However, it is important to note that All-Clad offers far more variety of stainless steel than Made In, which only offers 5-ply construction with a triple-layer aluminum core.

All-Clad not only offers 5-ply construction with aluminum core, but also 4-ply, 3-ply and 2-ply, and has a range of core materials outside of aluminum. Not only that, but All-Clad has its own range of non-stick and copper cookwares too, which really puts Made In on the backfoot.

Where Made In truly shines, however, is their French carbon steel sets, which are hard to come across with most cookware brands. In addition, Made In is far more affordable than All-Clad, which really makes it a better choice if you are one to not think twice about a product’s “branding” or prestige reputation. Learn more about them in our All-Clad review.

Made In vs Le Creuset

In terms of stainless steel, Made In definitely takes the cake here. The main downfall of Le Creuset is its lack of cladding on its stainless steel cookware products. While Made In offers the 5-ply durable triple aluminum core stainless steel range, Le Creuset caps at just 3-ply stainless steel construction with a single aluminum core.

This makes Le Creuset far less durable than Made In. In terms of the handles, Le Creuset is known to have higher levels of comfort with rounded edges. While this may be true, I still give the win to Made In on this, as I would much prefer the curved handle design, which helps control the pan better and keeps the heat away from your face. In terms of affordability, both brands have shown to be potentially expensive, so I would not use this as a decision indicator by any means.

Both brands also offer limited lifetime warranties. One thing Le Creuset does have over Made In is more compatibility with induction cooktops, which is definitely a game-changer for some. Nonetheless, both are excellent brands of cookware, but I personally would go for Made In for its 5-ply construction and blue carbon options too.  Learn more about them in our Le Creuset review.

Made In vs. Caraway

While Made In does have some non-stick options available and excellent quality at that, Caraway is simply the top of the range when it comes to non-stick and best ceramic cookware. However, there is a significant difference between Made In’s non-stick cookware range and Caraway’s ceramic range.

First off, Made In’s non-stick cookware still comes with aluminum interiors, which are not as environmentally friendly as Caraway’s pure ceramic range, which boasts PFOA and PTFE-free surfaces. Prices are fairly similar between these two brands, with some items requiring an extra buck while others are quite a good bargain.

My final verdict on this one would probably go with Caraway, just because I value the aspect of no toxins in my food, equipment, and most importantly, in me! I like to do my part for the environment too, which makes me lean more towards Caraway’s pure ceramic range. Learn more about them in our Caraway review.

Made In vs. Scanpan

Scanpan, like Caraway, is a very environmentally-friendly brand. With 100% recycled aluminum and a huge range of PFOA and PTFE-free products, this brand is great for the environment and is a much safer option for your own health. Like all of the best ceramic cookware, however, they aren’t as durable as stainless steel and often cap at 500 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature tolerance.

Scanpan can also match Made In in terms of 5-ply stainless steel construction through its range of cookware, which also come with non-stick coating. Made In is perhaps the more affordable option, but Scanpan reaps more benefits in the long run in terms of chemical-free nature and lasting durability. Learn more about them in our Scanpan review.

Made In vs. Misen

In the world of cookware, two brands stand out for their use of high-quality materials: Misen and Made In. Both brands use cladded 5-ply stainless steel in their cookware sets, though Made In’s sheets are slightly thinner.

Furthermore, both companies use a combination of triple-layered aluminum for the core, sandwiched between stainless steel sheets for optimal heat distribution and durability. With both brands sporting similar material construction, the winner is decided by a narrow margin as we look to the suppliers of each.

Sourced from the best steel manufacturers across the USA and Europe, Made In’s quality is trusted by Michelin-star chefs.

In contrast, Misen sources its steel from a single supplier in China. While Misen’s cookware is still of high quality, it falls just short of Made In when it comes to materials.

Read all about the comparison in our Misen vs Made in comparison.

Made In vs. Hexclad

As its name suggests, Hexclad has a hexagon-shaped design which is both an aesthetically pleasing and high-performance cookware. However, Hexclad, like Le Creuset, also caps at 3-ply, unlike Made In with its 5-ply stainless steel range. On the other hand, Hexclad cookware is dishwasher safe, while Made In cookware must be hand washed.

While Hexclad does have more non-stick options than Made In, I would still go for Made In as I believe you get more bang for your buck. From higher durability to better heat retention, particularly with their copper core and carbon steel ranges, Made In has more benefits than I would actually care about. Of course, the final verdict is up to you, and it all depends on what is more important to your goals. Learn more about them in our Hexclad cookware review.

Bottom Line: Should You Buy Made In Cookware?

My overall review of Made In cookware is that they are perhaps one of the more versatile cookware manufacturers on the market. With such a wide range of materials used, as well as the quality of said materials (I mean, we are talking award-winning stuff here), there really is something for everyone.

Made In’s approach to selling cookware and their deep understanding of what quality means are key ingredients for what is an extremely successful brand. Their pots and pans include stockpots, fry pans, saute pans, skillets, and saucepans, making for a dynamic range that encompasses all the essentials you need.

As such, you could honestly do anything with Made In cookware, whether it’s starting a foundation of cookware from scratch, adding to an already existing collection, or doing a full kitchen make-over, Made In pans have your back!

So to wrap things up, whether or not you buy Made In cookware depends on who you are as a person, and this is the case with all cookware considerations. For example, you don’t want to go for a brand specializing in stainless steel if your goals are for maximizing your health and the environment, which would make ceramic cookware a better choice for you. With that said, if you are a lover of anything from stainless steel cookware to copper, non-stick, or even blue carbon steel cookware, then you should definitely go with Made In cookware.
