About Stargazer Cast Iron Skillet
Stargazer Cast Iron is unique in that it is the only cast-iron brand that utilizes a direct-to-consumer strategy to help make quality cookware pieces more affordable to customers. This means that you can go straight to their website to buy the skillets without dealing with a middleman. This helps keep their prices low, which means more people can access quality cookware at an affordable price.
History of Stargazer Cast Iron Skillets
The company was founded in 2015 by Peter Huntley, a professional kitchenware designer. He wanted to build a company that would manufacture quality cast iron cookware pieces with an attractive design in the United States. The company is also proud that its products are produced sustainably, and the environmental footprint is minimized. (1)
Stargazer Cast Iron Specifics
Stargazer Cast Iron is designed to be smooth. This helps the skillet be non-stick and easier to clean. One of my biggest challenges with cooking with cast iron is how heavy it is. However, Stargazer is different than a traditional cast-iron skillet. With Stargazer Cast Iron, their skillets are lighter weight without sacrificing cast iron’s heat retention.
I hate grabbing a handle while cooking and realizing too little too late just how hot the handle is. Stargazer Cast Iron cookware has a comfortable grip, stay cool handle, which is a beneficial safety feature. The cookware is non-toxic and made from all-natural materials.
Stargazer Cast Iron Review
Overall Features of Stargazer Products:
- Smooth interior
- Nonstick qualities
- Optimized weight
- The handle is designed to stay cooler for a longer amount of time
- Rim is flared and drip-free
Material:
Stargazer makes high-quality cast iron cookware that will work on a gas or electric stove. One great thing about Stargazer Cast Iron is that you can choose whether you would like your cookware to be bare or seasoned. If you choose the bare finishing, you will need to season it yourself before using it. Bare cookware is dipped in mineral oil to protect it while it is being shipped. Once you receive it, you should wash the oil off and season it however you prefer.
The other option is to buy the cookware from Stargazer already seasoned. If you choose this option, the seasoned skillet will arrive seasoned with two coats of Stargazer’s oil blend, which consists of sunflower, grapeseed, and canola oil. Choosing this option means that your cast iron cookware arrives ready to use straight from the box.
Durability:
Stargazer Cast Iron prides itself on producing high-quality cookware that is built to last throughout the generations. These are not cheap skillets in terms of material. Domestically sourced iron is used to make the skillet. The made in America designation means you will get a quality, durable product.
Sustainability:
To make the skillets, Stargazer Cast Iron uses non-toxic recycled iron that is all-natural. The company seeks out innovative ideas for ways to lessen their carbon footprint, so these products are purchases you can feel good about.
Heating Capacity:
Cast iron cookware is very durable and can handle high temperatures well. You can use your Stargazer Cast Iron skillet on any cooking surface.
Cleaning Instructions:
Cleaning cast iron is not difficult, but it is different from cleaning standard cookware pieces. Using hot water and a rag should be sufficient to clean your Stargazer skillets. Be sure that the skillet is completely dry after cleaning it to avoid rusting.
One easy way to achieve this is to warm it up on the stove after it has been cleaned to ensure all of the water is removed from the skillet. You do not want to use steel wool or an abrasive cleaner as these items will take the pan’s seasoning off.
You also should not use a dishwasher to clean cast iron. The main thing to remember when cleaning cast iron is never to soak it in water!
Sizes:
Stargazer offers two sizes of cast iron skillets – a 10.5-inch skillet and a 12-inch skillet. The 12-inch skillet, the largest size, is my favorite piece, but both are great. These artisan skillets, though affordable, are indistinguishable from high-end skillets.
The smaller skillet has a rim diameter of 10.5 inches, but the cooking surface is 8.1 inches wide. It holds 2.3 quarts and is 2 inches deep.
The larger skillet has a rim diameter of 12 inches, but the cooking surface is 9.4 inches wide. It holds 3.4 quarts and is 2.3 inches deep. This model won the Popular Mechanics’ “Gear of the Year” award in 2021.

To season a pan means to apply oil or fat to the cast iron to form a hard shell to protect your cast iron. This also helps with the non-stick nature of the pans. Seasoning is a natural and renewable coating. To renew the seasoning, preheat your skillet for 5-10 minutes using a low heat source. Then wipe a little cooking oil onto the skillet’s cooking surface and heat it for another 5-10 minutes. The oil will look dry when it is done.
